What is a Twitter chat?

A Twitter chat is an online conversation that takes place among a group of people on Twitter about a specific topic of interest. A hashtag, created by adding the # symbol to the beginning of any word, is used to keep track of the conversation. In this case, we’ll be discussing discuss BYOD (Bring your own device) and where does it fit into your corporate policy and the hashtag we will use to track the discussion is #EMMRealities. You’ll need a Twitter account to participate. If you don’t have one, you can sign up at

How do I participate?

We’ll be asking a list of questions from our @BlackBerry4Biz Twitter handle. Our guest of honor, Rob Enderle (@Enderle) – President and Principal Analyst of the Enderle Group, he is regarded as one of the most influential technology pundits in the world. Rob will be there on the day to answer questions and help guide the conversation – but it’s up to you, the participants, to really get the chat going. Answer any of the questions that motivate you. If you have an opinion, a story, or advice, we want to hear from you! Twitter® chats can become a great source of knowledge when people like you share their experiences.

Choosing the Right Tool to Track the Chat

You may want to choose a tool to help you keep track of the chat all in one stream. We recommend using TweetChat, and have set up a page to track our dialogue From this site, you will see the real time conversation of all tweets with #EMMRealities. If you are logged in with your personal Twitter account, you will also be able to post all of your tweets directly from the site. Another way to track the chat is by searching #EMMRealities in the search bar at the top of the Twitter homepage.

Best Practices

Before the chat:

  • Make sure to follow the host, @BlackBerry4Biz, since we’ll be asking most of the questions that you don’t want to miss!
  • For this chat, we have our guests of honor Rob Enderle (@Enderle). You’ll want to follow him as well since they’ll be sharing their expertise on BYOD.
  • Feel free to join and leave the chat at any time you’d like! Don’t worry if you’ll be a little late, or need to leave early. Join at your own convenience, we’re happy just to see one tweet from you!

During the chat:

  • Make sure you use the hashtag #EMMRealities in all of your tweets. That is how others will know that you are participating in the chat, and it will also allow your tweets to be aggregated into the chat stream.
  • We will be asking designated questions throughout the chat. Our questions will start with a “Q” and the question number. Question one, for example, will start with “Q1”. Our questions will also be IN ALL CAPS, so that they are easily distinguished from other tweets in your stream.
  • Remember that tweets are only 140 characters. If it seems a little difficult at first, don’t worry – all participants are condensing their thoughts too.
  • Be respectful of other participants and remember that all Twitter rules still apply. Differing opinions are always okay, but express your feelings in a courteous manner, please.
  • Retweet great comments and engage with other participants.
  • Have fun!

After the chat:

  • If you still have more information to share or questions to ask, we’ll post a link to a discussion on the BlackBerry® for Business LinkedIn® group where you can continue the discussion.
  • Make sure to follow people you connected with or found interesting. Remember, your peers can also be your best resources.
  • Check right here at the Inside BlackBerry for Business Blog afterwards for a recap of the chat, highlights, and a link to the transcript!
  • Keep following us on Twitter and our LinkedIn Company Page for updates and information on upcoming chats.
  • Stay in touch! We’re always here to help, so feel free to ask us questions or share resources.

    Dear Blackberry,

As a loyal consumer – forced- to get a apple, I must say this. What are you doing??? Brand. You are Blackberry, I’ve literally have had every Blackberry you’ve created up until the torch. What you had was AMAZING. Firstly because of the keyboard , second , because a person could actually get work done with out the addictive lure of multiple distractions caused by the Internet and dare I say it FACEBOOK. Your original screen, homepage, layout design was flawless because – hello- users KNEW when they used your phones it was about professionalism, class, style, and prestige.

And then you sold out, you thought what you needed was to be like apple or android. You didn’t- you had the keyboard , and honestly if you needed anything to keep up it was just a better video processor for video streaming and more apps that let you play with pictures like pic collage, photo editing, games, and have most of them free.

You know what I really loved about Blsckberry that apple still can’t do? And I say that typing with their 5 right now. It was that LED light that with this one app I had would flash different colors (blue, green, yellow, pink, etc) and the choice of my own unique ringtone!!

Blackberry get it together. I wish I could just help you out as a loyal consumer – I’m currently working on my MBA in finance and marketing and would do it happily for a new blackberry bold, curve, torch- seriously. Hell, I model too, do you need that as well?

I say this as a consumer who to this day is still contemplating going on eBay and getting another blackberry because I miss so much if what you offered and I heard through the grapevine you guys are calling it quits and selling out.

Maybe it’s because you have a couple of people on your board that actually idolize the iPhone or droid phones that their strategy garners towards making blackberry more like these phones, but let me tell you this people choose Blackberry because it is Blackberry and if you remember plenty of people were jealous when they saw a person had a blackberry because they knew this- blackberry is about efficiency, style, class, and most importantly the keyboard. Stand out and be bold, be Blackberry. I swear send me a Blackberry Bold for Tmobile and I will personally work for you for free to market, strategize, and rebuild your brand because to be honest this iPhone 5 although pretty cool is a TOY. I want my business phone back- the phone for the big boys. That is who you are and again I had EVERY phone you made except for this new stuff that I can’t even turn my eyes to. Do you know how excited I was when I heard you guys were coming out with the z then the q, only to see it wasn’t my blackberry?

I felt like a wife whose husband came home on her birthday without a cake. Not even a cupcake.

    Seriously, how can I help?
