Looking back at the European BlackBerry Classic launch event that took place in Frankfurt last December, more than 120 customers, partners and journalists came together and had the opportunity to spend some hands-on time with the new BlackBerry Classic smartphone. At the event, we took a few minutes to sit down with Franz Schiffer, Head of IT Infrastructure with the State Police of Hessen (of which Frankfurt is the largest city) to hear why BlackBerry was selected as their EMM provider of choice.
Mr. Schiffer, tell us a little about your role at the State Police of Hessen.
FS: In my role, I’m responsible for all IT infrastructure projects with the police Hessen. This includes equipment and tools for our police officers as well as the back office.
Why did you choose BES10 for your organization’s mobility management needs?
FS: Since 2014 we have relied on BlackBerry for our mobility management needs. As a government agency, we are required to have a complete and secure separation of work and personal information. BlackBerry is known for its unmatched security and reliability. Pair those features with functionality and usability, our decision was actually quite easy.
What key BES10 features are you particularly impressed with?
FS: We have a very diverse mobile fleet. Our team uses different devices depending on the use case. We were impressed by the multi-platform management support tools available via BES10. One central, easy to use administration console for all mobile platforms was also a big differentiator.
How important is the security of mobile communication to you and your organization
FS: Security is our top priority. We believe BlackBerry delivers best in class security for data-at-rest and data-in-transit. We completed our trial installation earlier this year and are now undergoing the full deployment phase, which is going well.
Are you considering any value-added services in addition to BES10?
FS: We are currently evaluating our needs to identify where we can add value to our daily business needs and processes. We are taking a look at a service from ISEC7 called Mobile Exchange Delegate for the multiple user access of mailboxes and additional services such as BBM Enterprise (formerly known as BBM Protected).
