Businesses operating in regulated industries face a difficult balancing act. On the one hand, the tools and platforms they use must be secure and compliant. On the other, they’re useless if they don’t enable productivity for one’s employees.
In order to tackle this problem head on, Mackenzie Health chose BlackBerry BES12 as its EMM solution. Based in Southern Ontario, this regional healthcare provider serves a population of over half a million from seven locations and is currently overseeing construction of an eighth facility. It has a large fleet of mobile devices to manage across multiple platforms including iOS, Android and BlackBerry.
“A lot of our challenges and needs are universal across hospitals; my counterparts around the world have the same problems from a clinician and administrator perspective,” explained Mackenzie Health Executive VP and COO Richard Tam. “We need to be assured that our mobile solution complies with strict patient privacy and confidentiality regulations without sacrificing productivity.”
After weighing BlackBerry’s offerings against several other MDM solutions, Tam’s organization ultimately became one of BES12’s early adopters.
For Tam, there were three deciding factors that drove his organization to select BES12 over the competition.
The first was the ability of BES12 to manage any mobile deployment model. The second was that it was designed for flexibility and ease of use for both administrators and end users. And finally, the third was that, through features such as BlackBerry Balance and Secure Work Space, it gave the users at Mackenzie Health the ability to keep corporate information such as patient data private and separate from their personal data on the phone.
BES12 allows Tam to support any device platform his doctors choose without risking the security of the patient data transmitted to the device. No matter what device an employee uses to connect to Mackenzie Health’s network, the containerization and end-to-end security enabled by BES12 ensures no sensitive information is compromised. Administrators can easily view and control all devices connected to BES through an intuitive, single-screen interface.
From a productivity perspective, the staff and physicians at Mackenzie Health appreciate the opportunity to use their device of choice to access the information they need in the moment to care for their patients. Being able to separate their work and personal data on the same device has freed them from the necessity of carrying two phones.
Tam summarizes, “We reviewed several MDM platforms, but ultimately chose BES12 for the flexibility, security and peace of mind it offers us.”
