In the face of a growing and ever-changing mobile landscape, including the adoption of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) strategies, it’s important to consider how security can still remain paramount. We caught up with Michael K. Brown, BlackBerry’s Vice President of Security Product Management & Research, to discuss why security doesn’t need to be traded away for functionality and an open environment. If you’re developing using the Open Data, or “OData”, protocol then you already know that BlackBerry provides support through our WebWorks development kit. You probably don’t know that we just released an open source OData library for C++ and provided a Cascades sample app to help kick-start your project. If you already know what OData is then just skip ahead a few paragraphs for the link to this library. If you’re not familiar with OData then let me introduce you to a great new Restful data access solution. OData is a REST-based protocol, with both a server and client implementation that lets you make CRUD (Create, Read, Update and Delete) calls for Data.

Increase Productivity with Teleworking Capabilities from BlackBerry 10 and BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10

Mobile devices have transformed the workplace, allowing employees to communicate via phone, e-mail, video, the Internet, and other tools from virtually any location. This transformation has generated increasing popularity of working from home, or “teleworking.”

A number of businesses and government agencies have adopted telework initiatives to reduce costs, ensure continuity of operations, and minimize their carbon footprints. For example, participants in Arizona’s telework program drive an estimated 5.25 million fewer miles, generate 175,000 fewer pounds of air pollution and endure 181,000 fewer hours of stressful driving time per year. The United States Treasury Department saves an estimated $1 million annually on facilities costs though its telework program. Both BlackBerry 10 and BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 include capabilities that can help organizations make teleworking possible.

BlackBerry Live 2013 will be a Truly Mobile Conference with NFC, the Conference App, and More

BlackBerry Live Conference App

One of our goals for this year’s BlackBerry Live conference is to integrate mobile technology not just in the discussions, sessions, and resources – but into the actual conference itself to help keep attendees closely plugged into all of the action.

Near Field Communication (NFC)

One of my all-time favorite technologies, Near Field Communication (NFC) will be integrated into BlackBerry Live in a big way. You’ll be able to scan into BlackBerry Live and BlackBerry Jam sessions and interact with aspects of the venue using the BlackBerry Live Conference App, but that’s just the beginning. You’ll also be able to share contact information with sponsors, scoop up links to resources and web sites, and take advantage of all that BlackBerry 10 has to offer when it comes to NFC.

The results are in: BlackBerry Messenger helps enhance business collaboration

Back in February we asked you how you use your BlackBerry smartphone for business. The results are in and it’s clear that BlackBerry Messenger is a favorite feature for staying connected and keeping in touch with colleagues while on the go.

With BBM for BlackBerry 10, keeping in touch is easier than ever, and now you can video chat and screen share over BlackBerry Messenger. Screen sharing allows you to collaborate with colleagues while away from the office and BBM video allows you to stay connected with friends and family while you’re travelling.

Check out the video below for even more ways to use screen sharing over BBM and video chat:
